Plumbers!!!

There was a good plumber in our neighbourhood when I lived in the UK. He was eventually stuffed and mounted in the local museum as part of their "rare animals" exhibition.
 
sign up with British gas for something like 20 quid a month, then they come out and service if for free, and fix it for free if it goes wrong, i've done pretty well out of it!

They only take on good boilers though and once it passes a certain age they'll no longer cover it.

So thats £240 for a yearly 'service', great deal!

I say 'service' as ive been to boilers looked after by British Gas and they've not been serviced properly for years.

As for people dropping boilers off and leaving, who pays up front these days? Mugs? You accept a quote or estimate for the whole job and pay once its finished and working properly, if they want money up front then tell them where to go!

There are a few plumbers i know that i wouldn't trust in my house but most of them are fine, it seems the few that rip people off get talked about most and as a result everyone thinks plumbers are out to con you.

Lets start a thread so people can share their good experiences with tradseman and see how many people post sensible answers and advice.
