I have alt of download errors on my line so need to get that fixed

The exchange was recently upgraded, just before I got my circuit, although I'm not sure in what way. But when I first got the circuit a few months back they basically said that anything under 8Mb would be considered a fault. Well I've never achieved above 2Mb, despite numerous calls to to BT's call centres.

So initially I'm trying two things, obviously one is moving to plusnet, and the other is the purchase of a billion 7800n (switching from homehub v1). I'm under no illusions about a dramatic increase in bandwidth, all I get are lies on that front, but I'd be quite pleased with a lower and steadier ping. And if I'm really lucky then maybe the infrequent line drops will stop as well.

Well I'd have made them give me a newer router as a matter of course, HH is up to V3 now, and there was a V1.5. Have you tried making sure the ring wire is disconnected, unplugging extensions, plugging direct into the test socket?

No I haven't tried that yet tbh. I'll try the test socket this weekend and if there are improvements then I'll disconnect the ring wire.

I was checking my stats last night.. I'm about 1.6Km from the exchange and attenuation looks fine, but for some reason the snr is terrible and I only sych at 2.5Mb. So it may well be the ring wire acting as an antenna, anyway I'll test it this weekend and post back results.
