Is it true that buying a SDD lowers skips, stuttering and jerking in game? I get stutters and skips when ever the enviroment loads in the distance.

The fps is at around 120 and doesnt drop when the skip occurs. Ive heard from many places that a raid 0 set up helps a little but SDD's improve it no end. you do get stutters now and then but the ones you do get are either caused by your system or the network or server (in other words lag)

thanks for any info you can give - adam :)

I replied to one of your threads months ago on how to fix this?

Yep you did, and it didnt work lol It made it worse form what i remember. Ive seen a lot of people on the official forums suggesting limiting the fps but it didnt work for me :(.
Its not the fps its the loading/steaming of the textures that causes the stutter. Its also a common problem on fallout 3, oblivion and STALKER.

Just an update of AOC, i gave up on it lol. While it was a good game the PING was awful! -_- While that wasnt the thing causeing the poor performance. I belive its what caused some of the stuttering.

well an SSD will most definitely improve loading times and improve loading distances and textures etc.

Just buy a small SSD enough for LOTR your not losing out as the SSD will improve the overall performance of your system.

I also found that when i had a 5870 i had more stuttering in WOW and LOTR compared to an Nvida card,im not saying this is your problem mind:)

It worked for me when I played it a bit, though I didn't get a SSD specifically for it and quit the game after a week or so after having got the new system! It's perported to solve the issue though, and it certainly seemed to in my case.

I had the exact same problem so i just stopped playing! I lowered the graphics from "Ultra" to "Very High" which slightly helped, but in the end i just gave up hope :(

Thanks for all your help! :D and ty KMUFC once again for your help :P I think ill give it a try! Ive heard an ssd helps most mmorpgs (and future ones) so thought id get one ready for dc online and star wars online :P:D

I tryed the same and like u the stutter did lower.. but the stutter is still there in countryside when the lanscape loads :( (even when you cant see it, you get the stutter)

It's a problem with the game engine.
I get this problem with a WD caviar black HDD and a GTX480.
I would think a SSD would help but it's a limitation of the game engine.
It is bad but it's still a beautiful looking MMO.

I like the last! It does have a bit of a bad review :(
I know this isnt the hard drive forum but when people say 'there slower compared to the more pricy drives" there still fast right? Its just not AS fast. Like they are faster than a hdd?:P Im gunna have to give it a lot of thought >< tyvm for the links! Saved them for tomorrow (when i get paid woo)

no thats what RAM does

Not when the game streams textures from the HDD. Thats why u get some games like fallout 3 suffering from stutters wheen there are no loading screens and you can see far into the distance :( Wow does really well tho! massive islands and not one stutter (for me) even when i had a much slower HDD and stuff.. then again i may be wrong >< but thats what i have got from the research ive done ><

Have a 128gb C300 and still get the stutter you talk about, not everywhere though, Eregion and some Lothlorien/mirkwood to a degree, Moria doesn't have it at all, though not too surprisingly.

I think its mostly the game engine, setting really low settings does help, have WAY more than enough graphical power to push it maxed out at any res. I really don't know what it is, likely to be a lack of efficient predicting of what it wants to load next, so when textures pop in its doing something stupid. Maybe its keeping textures quite badly compressed so theres a little stuttering introduced as it loads, uncompresses significantly then loads to gpu, I'm not sure.

Its WAY worse than it used to be pre Moria expansion pack and in places with far more enviromental stuff going on like Misty Mountains it was never and isn't an issue.

Also I suspect, though can't be completely sure, I used to play the game maxed out at launch and still do, I think the pop in is more significant IE even on max settings the distance it draws to has been lowered, and rather than just rendering everything in sight from miles away, its now ignoring stuff then having it pop in much closer.

I really don't know, the game hasn't seemingly evolved efficiency wise from a basically perfect start years ago it hasn't really moved on graphically and seems to have gotten worse in performance on FAR superior hardware to what we were all using what, about 3 years ago?

It's a known fact NVIDIA cards work better with WoW.
