Hi, I've written some poetry and I wondered if anyone knew anywhere I could submit some of it, I thought somewhere like the Guardian might do a section or a broadsheet like that.

Anybody know anywhere?

Thanks

May I suggest making a website? Five years ago, I would have said to use Angelfire.

Nowadays, all the cool kids are using MySpace so go with that.

Make sure you include lots of *.gif files. Preferably animated fire, skulls et cetera.

Use a black background and purple text. Use white text for emphasis.

Remember to swap letters around; you'll get mocked by the kids if you write 'my life is nothing without his love eternal.'

BUT!

'My lyfe is nothyng without his love yternal.' shows them who is boss.

Always include each of the following words at least twice in each poem:

life/lyfe
despair/dispare (remember, cool kids don't use spellcheck)
wallowing
lost
eternal
crushing

Now all you need is some out-off-focus, under-exposed, over-saturated webcom photos of you looking sulky with some of your mum's makeup on.

its not like that, is there no one whos written anythin and have found some nice places to send it to? not just poetry, short stories, novels, anythin really?

Would like to have somethin published.

I hate the way that as soon as someone even thinks the word poetry a million people jump down from their pedastals screaming emo. He might actually not be emo

thank you Zefan, I am indeed, not an emo and normally would jump at the chance to mock them too. Not all poetry is about sadness and sorrow.

I believe that would be a limerick, and I dont wish to be anything like Carol Ann Duffy, I've never met anyone who likes her.

I dont just write poetry, I've written a lot of other things, some have been published already, but that was through school.

Does no one know then?

Who mentioned emo? I certainly didn't.

In all seriousness, I don't know of any 'mainstream' presses that have poetry sections.

Large publishers won't touch you unless you are already a 'name' or have something which is downright amazing.

Indie Publishers may print it....But it'll be read by five lesbians and one confused goth.

So the real question is:

Do you think you're good enough and how much are you willing to pay?

fair point penski, I've spent a while looking for small competitions and alike, its not like I really want to publish a book with 75 poems in, just wouldnt mind putting it somewhere where it will be read by people I dont know, not here before you say anything.

some of the other things I've been writing I think will go to real publishers, I know I have ideas good enough but I dont know if I can pull off a narrative.

Will give it a go though.

Joined Deviant Art by the way, thanks to whoever suggested it.

If anybody else knows anywhere that I can submit to I'd appreciate it.

Ideally I would like a small magazine, monthly or bimonthly or whatever that publishes readers work.
