point and click adventures

Many many many fun/frustrating hours spent playing day of the tentacle as a young man. Absolutely loved that game even though I never managed to get past that damn cat in the attic lol.

Monkey island comes a very close second for me, another awesome game !!

Well, I'd recommend some oldschool titles, might be tricky to run them, would need emulators probably.

Teenagent
Ace Ventura
UFOs ( the one with one eyed purple sausage guy - extremely funny )

The discworld games (well 1 and 2 anyway) are also good, especially if you are a fan of the series.

However, there are better games already mentioned in the thread

I played these and in my opinion, there are far too many things that only people who have read Discworld novels could actually know to do in the game without pure guess work.

To be honest, a lot of it was nonsense, not even mentioned in the books. It was like they were trying to be as random as Sam and Max and went so far as it became confusing.

I also really liked Toonstruck, one of my personal favourites.

Any of these adventure games can be pure guesswork, it's the very nature of some of them, you try different things until you work out a solution.

If you want a modern game, look for "The Experiment". It's not quite point-and-click in the same sense, but it's very good.

The premise is that you're behind the security desk in an abandoned ship. On your monitor you see through security cameras, and you see a woman wake up. You comunicate with her by nodding or shaking the cameras, and you control her by accessing maps for the rooms she's in an activating or deactivating items in the room. It's really quite tense.
