Hey kinda a PC thing but more a console thing....

/Puts on flame retardant suit

Anyway getting a PS3 hopefully this week (bathes in the flame heat) but need to at some point hook it up to my 22" Acer X223w monitor, which in one of Acers cheaper moments decided to only bless this lovely monitor with a single VGA input, so what do i need to go from PS3 to VGA? HELP! Edit, will i also need a KVM switch of some sort, as this monitor is mainly for my PC.

Dont know if OcUK does anything like that, if so please link me up

/leaves on the suit..... it looks kinda funky

Don't know what the PS2 outputs, but its composite/component, right?

Personally I would use a HDMI > DVI adapter cable and then bung a DVI > VGA adapter on the end. You get a couple thrown in with graphics cards but you can buy them separately.

Note however you will get NO SOUND unless you use the optical-out on the PS3 to a separate receiver.

edit - just remembered HDCP. Can't remember 100% how this affects running the PS3. I think games work fine but playing a DVD or Bluray disc might be a problem.

I did quite a bit of research into this as I was going to get a PS3 earlier this year and from what I've read it turns out that without HDCP the Playstation 3 will produce no output whatsoever via it's HDMI output (however it'll be fine via analogue).

That picture in the second post is of a Gadmei 5830 which is what I use to play my Playstation 2 on my monitor using composite cables. The cables and the Gadmei itself support up to 1080i (if i remember correctly) so hopefully you shouldn't have much of a downgrade (unsure if games use the full 1080p yet?) via that, though I can't say for sure as I haven't tested it.

If I were you I'd try to find the Gadmei 5830 (just do a google search) as you can plug in your PC and PS3 and just change the source image via the remote that comes with it rather than swapping out cables constantly.

Edit: this thread may help http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17812921

hdfury cable, gamer edition, about 50quids hdmi to analogue :) removes HDCP stuffs.

then youd need a switch box of some sorts.

i'll be doing this if i get a ps3, on my ocuk 24inch as it hasn't got hdcp.
