We are looking to get some point to point connectivity put in place (100Mbit or 1Gig depending on cost).

I've got some initial indication of cost from BT - can anyone recommend alternative suppliers I can offer the opportunity to? Radial distance of approx 5 miles, A and B ends at different exchanges.

Thanks.

Kingston? Cable and wireless?

Another vote for Kingston - Well, KCom now

It entirely depends who you're "on-net" with - the cheapest way will be to find a supplier that's on-net at both ends. Companies can rent the tails from other providers so it's not essential but it does get more expensive that way

Thanks all - I got a price from Eclipse who are part of KCom. I'll give Geo and convergence a ring when I get a moment.

From experience does there tend to be a large difference in pricing between suppliers? I'm only looking for ballpark figures at the moment - we're planning for a merger.

Dont go with eclipse - different support arrangement, much more domestic focussed. Go with KCom direct and you go through thier NOC

Virgin Media Business is another one. We've moved away from point to point to MPLS, so 1gb costs around £8k for the total circuit rather than the tens of thousands it did for p2p.

Whats your location?

South Wales.

Interesting - can I do layer 3 over that? Interestingly, the p2p doesn't cost much more than you're pointing out as the distance is not all that great really.

We're planning to move off our exisitng MPLS to Virgin eVPN (MPLS basically). It's layer 2 "wires only" but that allows us to do our own layer 3 eigrp/dscp stuff on top.

In addition they are providing a 1Gb p2p link between Aberdeen and London for us - i can't remember the exact costs for that part but it was cheap enough.

It might be worth giving Glamorgan Telecom a bell. For a 10/100 they came out literally half the price of Virgin and BT for us.
