Pointers for new SSD

Ok, I was towing with getting a Vertex3 drive over the last few days, as they were in stock, however I didn't, but now that I have the UPS postage note to return my sandybridge board to ASUS for replacement for a B3 version, I want to get one for when that arrives, so I will either be pre-ordering over the weekend, or ordering on Monday, when they're meant to be coming in again. But I'm unsure if I know everything I should to get maximum performance/lifetime out of the SSD.

I know to set the BIOS to ACHI mode, and I should disable auto defragmentation, but is there anything else?
