Looking for recommendations on what to use to make minor repair’s on the pointing on my brickwork. Mortar is loose around down pipe which needs replacing and where I’ve had a security light replaced.

Unless you've got a use for a full bag of cement and some bags of sand (to mix your own mortar), then something like the following is what you want:

The only issue is that whatever you use to repair mortar will probably not match, due to aging of the existing mortar, and also regional variation depending on where the cement/sand originally came from.

You'll also need at least a pointing trowel

And to remove the old mortar use either a small wire brush, or you can buy a specialist mortar rake tool

To do a good job, you would be better off raking out the joints with an old screwdriver to get out any loose debris.
If there is any small cracks in the joints, i would use a small angle grinder to widen the joint or a small cold chisel and hammer.
Never use pre-mixed stuff myself, if you mixing your own, 4:1 mix of building sand and cement, dont mix it too wet, you want to be able to take a handful and squeeze it lightly, if it stays together in a ball you are near the right consistency.
A full size brickies trowel is easier to use to push off the cement.
There are pointing tools but a 150mm length of hosepipe will do it if you don't have much to do.
Put some mortar on the trowel, place it parallel to the joint and push the mortar into the joint with the pointer.
fill all the joints and then lightly brush the bricks with a soft brush.
Have some plastic on the ground, this is a messy job
