Hi there!

I started folding a week or so ago on and off, past few days ive had my pc and ps3 on all the time folding :)

Just wondering on a few things really..

what do the points, different ammount of WU's mean? How do I find out how many PPD im doing etc? All the information confuses me :)

Also ive got 2 "accounts" and old one on the random ocuk australian place with a 6k score, and my current team 10 (on 5k now so not far)

ALSO (last one) the gpu cliant idles around 50-60 itts per sec? However it drops to 1 itt per sec randomly and wont go back utnill i give the folding screen attention

We really need to write out an explanation of folding and associated terms. I can't tell you much right now cos I'm at work. To get you started though..

WU = Work Unit, this is one packet of data about a protein that the folding at home software downloads and then runs calculations on to simulate a biological process. What you see is lines of text going from 0 to 100 as your PC works through the calculations.

Different WUs take different amounts of time to process and therefore they are worth different amounts of points. For each type of client software there is a benchmark PC. All the WUs for each type of client software are run on a benchmark machine and that's how the points are decided on.

PPD = points per day. Most people get a figure for this using software called FahMon which monitors how fast your CPU or GPU is folding and therefore how many points you would score in a day if you left it on 24 hours a day.

It's worth reading this thread as it contains links to FahMon and stats pages where you can see how you are doing compared to the rest of the team.

Or if you are feeling lazy.

Are you watching the graphical display? It's really buggy and slows the WU down a lot. The best thing to do is not to open the viewer and to monitor the progress of the WU using FahMon.

how would one setup fahmon? It doesnt seem to err, done anything :D

Have you got the program installed? If so, you need to add your clients to it. My guide shows how to do it for the GPU client (scroll to the bottom) - the idea is the same for the other clients.

cheers for the help guys :)

MAttus thanks! didnt realise you just right clicked lol. I dont think my gpu client works, it seems to only do a test thing, also fahmon sees it but its not, doing anything.

fahmon working fine with my cpu though :) Just wish I could see my ps3 with it heh.
