Police and blocking driveways

I live about 10 houses along from a junior school and mindless mothers often park across my drive. It's difficult for my wife when she turns up home with our 18 month old daughter to find some idiot blocking access and all the other space nearby taken up.

We had a similar issue and contacted the school who apologised and said they would send an email out to parents about blocking driveways in the vicinity. Solved the problem for us (for now at least).

I think a lot of people just have no consideration for anyone any more.
I mentioned in another parking thread about the person actually parking IN someone elses driveway while they went to pick their kid up from school!
The householder was most irate when they opened the door to find a strangers car parked there, she just ignored him and drove off.
:p

Is it acceptable to tow it out the way and bang a wheel clamp on?

Should have ordered a skip...

Nope, Highway codes says do not do it. It doesn't say you MUST NOT do it, nor does it provide the reference to the relevant law.

It is a recommendation not a legal requirement.

As is the Highway Code itself !

What does the Road Traffic Act say about it and local bylaws ?
