Police and sirens

You base your views on what you see on TV? As many have said here, whether the lights and sirens get used depends on many factors, not least: time of day.

M

I meant those police programmes where they show real footage. :p

I remember one where it was in the countryside quite late, and the police showed up with sirens on and the guys who were burgling the house ran off. Now if they had gone there silent, they might not have been spooked? :o

I find it quite hypercritical that a police car starts chasing a suspect vehicle who then starts racing away and horrendous speeds. The only reason there are doing these silly speeds is because their in pursuit. Surely best to back off, radio down and use a more stealthy approach which would be far more effective and safer. After all, a stolen car car is pretty unimportant compared to someone being mowed down as a result of a chase.

Some forces aren't allowed to chase, for this very reason.

That is often the aim, but keeping track of the car once it's been sighted is pretty key, you'll see when a helicopter is involved there's rarely a car in hot pursuit as they are able to see where the car's going.

T-pack has also been stopped in some forces as well.

There are several times where I have put the blues on to stop a vehicle and they take off. One lad did this and was approaching a built up area at around 70-80 mph and I radioed in that I was aborting as it was too dangerous to continue. The lad crashed the car into a central reservation and left his pregnant girlfriend at the scene when he took off on foot. Nice.

He was later caught.

He never said it was a Koren, or Jap car, he just said: In Korea and Japan, you can't switch the lights off...
