You will find the physical fitness aspect is a joke

agreed although my uncle did say it was no better than the fire brigade.

think my uncle only had to get to bleep level 7 or something daft (cant remember if it was police or fire though).

he couldnt believe the state of the officers coming in for their physicals and passing them.

It is a very tough process, first of all starting with initial application, if you pass that then you are invited to sit the standard entrance test, if you pass that you will do an initial fitness screening which consist of a 1.5mile run to be completed in 15min or less ( your would be surprised how many people fail this)

After passing the fitness test you have an initial interview, on passing that you then get a home visit which is another interview albeit more casual. After that you have a panel interview which can be pretty tough going. The final two stages consist of a more thorough fitness test and also a full medical. If you pass everything you will be given a date on which you will commence your training at Tulliallan.

You can fail at each of these individual stages, a fail means another long wait before you can try again, usually 3 months minimum.

Expect the whole process from application to appointment to take well over a year, that’s if you pass everything first time.

its 6 months between reapplying and anything from 8 months+ although can be 2yrs for a popular force.

i went for it last year and they didnt even look at my application as i had a driving ban(when i asked the recruitment team about it they said it didnt matter as long as you didnt have 9 points and about to lose your licence - load of crap that were...). my uncle helped me on it loads and helped me understand the bull**** you have to spout to get in lol.

i might try again though as it seems a good job once youre in there if you can get in the right area.

Depending on what stage of the process you are on it can be 3 or 6 months between attempts. Recently changed.

Its generally based around core competencies, eg respect for race and diversity, customer focus, resiliance etc.

You will need to give examples of how you have excelled in each of these competencies.

It may vary for your force (sorry, service) though

Why is that (almost) every copper I meet is a racist bigot with the charisma of a plank of wood? I really must be missing something.
