This probably best describes me too... I wouldn't be that confident repairing a small and complicated PCB (though if it was already knackered I'd give it a go) but ok with a kit, soldering plugs to wires etc

Don't own one (although keep wishing I'd bought one - although at least have access to one at work). Not great at it, but can do a passable job at it.

That said, on Thursday I had to replace a part on a ~£80K laser marking machine at work, thus far seems to be ok!!

Mine has my name melted on the front. Directly above that, there's someone elses name melted on the plastic which has been scribbled out.
I *ahem* borrowed this when I was working in a factory. Clearly it wasn't mine to start with due to the fact I crossed another name out.
I've just been looking at the sponge, mine has actually had it now because when I just wetted it, it really did start to fall apart and the spares I've got stacked behind are real cheapies from eBay (pack of three delivered from China for a penny) and aren't the right size. Weller sponges are expensive but I suppose when I look at cost/year, they're not too bad. If I buy another one new, it'll probably outlive me.
Can I come round and borrow your one (and thus be able to answer yes to the poll)?
Learnt to solder at school and am not bad at it, if a little out of practice

I've got a Hakko 936 clone (Yaxun). It's decent enough for my limited use, only falls down for me on build quality, especially when compared to the Weller ones I've used at work. It's nice to have good temperature control for so little cash, and it reviews decently compared to some other clones. I've used it quite a few times, fixing knackered consoles/accessories mainly, I find it strangely therapeutic.
Soldering is a part of my wider job description, and we did quite a bit in training, but outside of that I could probably count the amount of times I've had to use one in anger on two hands. Now I've moved roles if I'm near an iron something is very wrong

Yeah same - can be frustrating working with prototype board sometimes when things are fiddly but great feeling when it all comes together and working.

Yes, and yes. I bought one to remove the active electronics from my bass because they didn't really work.

Quite confident, my previous job involved soldering 100 plus .5mm cores into plugs. I don't miss that!

Not in my school years, although my school shut down when I left so that tells you a lot
