Last GPU I bought was £300 and I've been using it 10 years

So if I did buy a GPU that cost stupid money, it better last similarly long!

2 Years. It should be pretty clear now that GPUs retain most of their value.

I've always upgraded every gen and the actual cost has never been exorbitant.

I'd expect at least 4 years out of a card before considering upgrading. I'm only looking to upgrade from my 6800xt as I want a card with better RT performance for the latest titles on UE5

Mods, can you please make this a poll?

My Maxwell Titans (2015) were in use for 8+ years, though not in my main PC. My RTX 2080 Ti (2018) is still in use in my brother's PC. My RTX 3090 (2021) is still in use in my spare / backup PC, though it doesn't see much use.

5yrs+.

Thought it would be 4 yrs (2+2 over two systems) but between AMD bailing at high end and the cost for >16Gb on Nv-looking like the XTX is a keeper.

Needs a depends if I’m buying an ASUS 5070ti option.
With 'availability' I wouldn't be shocked if Pallit etc is going to hit that price too.

Usually I would say 2 years, if we get a good bump in performance from one gen to the next. But this gen, I don' think it's worth it for most people, especially as there are no killer games most people would need the performance in.

boought 4090fe december 2022 and will prob be jan 2027 before 6000 series as a potential upgrade but thats too far off to think about :P

16gb vram? Until the next generation of consoles with higher amounts then it'll struggle to keep up because that'll be the new baseline for games. Nvidia give you just enough to tide you over for a year or two unless you're paying silly money (-90) or underpowered (-70)- in which case you'll find its struggling from teh start in anything other than 1080p

Last PC I bought was about 10 years ago (GTX980), the one before that had a GTX280.
My latest PC in a month or two will have a RTX 5080 :)

In our rigs currently:
7800XT (bought new in February 2024 for £540)
2080 Super (£150 2nd hand March last year)
5700XT (bought 2nd hand in December 2020 for £250)
2080Ti (bought new in January 2018 for £1500ish - and an expensive lesson learned!)

Now CEX offer a 5 year warranty, I don't think I'll buy new again. And staying a generation or two behind makes so much more sense.
