@stoosh
I appreciate your genuine concern about a smaller N6. Fortunately I have big hands and the N6 will be a perfect fit.. I for one will really appreciate the larger screen display as I use my Nexus for work, content consumption and watching video.
However, Google has never launched two Nexus smartphones at the same time because that would run counter to their stated aim for the past few years, which is to choose one of their OEM partners and to showcase a particular phone that has already appeared and to modify it to accomodate their new OS, in this case Android 5.0. It will be up to their OEM partners (eg, Moto, Lenovo, Sony, Samsung, LG, Huawei) to work with the new Nexus OS and form factor and to adapt it to other form factors. So expect one of their partners to adopt your size requirement.
I believe Google is saying to its partners something like this: "Look here, we have taken a Moto X phablet--first time we have gone phablet size, optimised it to our software requirements, introduced 5,000 new APIs for our developers to think Android first, and challenged the new Apple premium priced product for a slightly lower price to boot. Moreover we intend to bring 5.0 to a low cost and low spec Android One device in emerging markets (the next billion users) at a sub-$100 price, so ok OEMs, have fun and take our efforts into your planning and production."
