Which muppets voted graphics?

A games company could easily just stick a HD video in a game, with a single button to advance through the chapters... pretty much like a DVD. Not exactly thrilling gameplay, but awesome graphics eh?

Just re-read this thread. Seems a bit pointless now I've realised there's an option for 'all of these are important'. I think generally anyone would select this after thinking about it?

Lose that option and you've got a fairly decent set of results.

the thing is though even with the option "A mixture of all three" still 44% choose Gameplay over that option which I find very intresting, especially for a tech forum, I don't want a balance of all three, I personaly want Gameplay as a first priority, then Sound, then Graphics, thats why I choose Gameplay, if you think they are all equally important and neither have a priority other each other then you would choose "A mixture of all three".

I completely agree!

I chose gameplay because choosing option 4 is a cop-out. In theoretical terms, of course I'd like a game to look as good as it could if it doesn't affect the gameplay, and that's why I imagine some people voted for that. But it's just not that simple. Improving graphics costs time and money to do, and forces people to upgrade just to play. I don't mind the odd game trying to outdo the graphical benchmark, but I dislike that most gamers seem to expect amazing graphics as standard. I'd much rather have a "lower-tier" of professionally-made games, where the graphics are good but not amazing, and the time is spent focusing on gameplay. Games would run much smoother, they'd be out quicker, and hey, they might even cost less as a result.

You shouldn't have given an "all of the above option", because it's the easy way out imo.

I do see what you're saying. But I do think that 'a mixture of all three' is a given - it's always there. If the option means 'I want graphics, gameplay, sound all level - none should be higher' then I've misunderstood a bit, that does seem like a valid option now I think about it.

If you're talking about a mixture meaning that adding graphics and sound somehow dilutes the gameplay (lets say the developer is able to allocate time and cost to these three areas as we desire) then I'd tip the pointer to the gameplay node of the triangle for sure. But there will always be a mix. If there was no mix at all, you'd have no graphics, and no sound so there would be no interface for this amazing gameplay. Just doesn't quite make sense to me.

it's so definitely about the balance. I've played games that have great ideas and have lovely graphics but the sound/music grates and ruins the whole feel.

On the other hand, awful gameplay can't be replaced with good sound and graphics.

The basis of a good game is balance.

Gameplay, but as everyone else has said, if the graphics were poor we would be put off it and most likely not enjoy it! Depending on how bad they were of course.
