Does anyone know what prision sentences were handed out to those involved in the Poll Tax riots?

After watching the Bradford Riots proggy and C4, I was shocked that they handed a term of 5 years to the guy who threw some bricks at the cops and am curious as to what sentences other riots have resulted in.

Me too....it should have been ten years.

tbh, life (not that panzy life they use now, but real life, your WHOLE life) that will make a good example of em

Justice in the UK doesn't work. Throw a few bricks at the police and get 5 years, being found guilty of unprovoked serious assault on my 61 year old dad and the bitch got a £200 fine.

justice?

Rioting,
Throwing bricks at Police,
Helping (in however small a part in the grand scheme of things) to destroy the order in this Country,
Being a part of something that makes life so bloody unbearable for decent people who just want to go about their own lawful lives.

That's just my own personal take on it of course. :)

Because it is utterly unacceptable to throw bricks at the police.

Any crime against the police should carry a stiffer sentence than a similar crime against a regular citizen, simply because of who the police are (or are supposed to be) and what they represent. A crime against the police is essentially a crime against the justice system.

Just a question, why are you interested about the sentences? Are you looking to find differences in the sentences do to the fact that it was white people doing the rioting during the poll tax riots?

Don't mean to take this off topic but do you have a link to the post about your dad?

That's a bit of a jump isn't it? As for the rioters, violence is never a solution, but the nature of the protest was perfectly valid, the poll tax was a huge mistake on the part of the govornment, and the people spoke out against it.

It probably is a bit of a jump, but I'm interested as to what the O.P's reaction will be, if the poll taxt rioters were given lighter sentences than the Bradford rioters

A message had to be sent out to people like this, you cant do what you want on your 'so called streets', they are not yours, they belong to everyone.

They were told to go home and given chance after chance to stop what they were doing.

5yrs is a message ... which says 'Riot and you WILL go to prison for a lengthly term' .

Justice done.
