As you are probably aware, the following month (or so) will see the Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC Sensation join the already impressive Android phone line-up.

It seems at this point the Galaxy S II has run away with people on here but HTC have quite a devout following in some respects so it might not be so clear cut.

I personally believe the Galaxy S II's hardware power will comfortably set it above the Sensation even though Sense UI is generally better software.

So, I thought we could (hopefully) have a poll and see what people are getting, I appreciate not everyone is bothered about dual core so you'll have an option for that, too.

Poll options -

  • Samsung Galaxy S II
  • HTC Sensation
  • LG Optimus 2X
  • HTC EVO 3D
  • Motorola Atrix
  • LG Optimus 3D
  • I'm keeping my single core phone and waiting for the iPhone 5/Sony offerings/etc.

I would really like the SGS II but I am really happy with my Desire, so I may even wait for the 2nd round of dual core phones

HTC EVO 3D cant say i care abou the 3D one jot but seeing Sense 3 in action especially compared to touch wiz has made me want it over the SGS2,

Aside from amazing form factor and good camera the experiencing of the SGS2 was frankly the same as the SGS1 from when i used it for a short amount of time at Gadget Show Live. Not that thats a bad thing but they haven't done much with there software

I know, I looked at that thread and its not really a discussion of the phones so much, its a discussion of the chipsets, and it was also made before most of them were officially announced.

This one is much more general and will have a poll soon hopefully :p

I hope you dont mind :)

I am passing on the first gen dual core phones. I am happy with my very heavily modded GT540 running 2.3.3 at the moment. I have a Vega with the Nvidia Tegra T20 processor which I am very impressed with, if Nvidia can tweak it and bring the 4 core version within the stated timescale, then they can do very well.

Sensation has just edged it for me - Samsung looks marginally better on paper undoubtedly but the Iphone 4 ripoff styling mixed with horrible cheap feel (from what I've read/heard) means I go with the technically inferior, yet far more pleasing to hold Sensation :)
Just holding off until I get some evidence of the camera's still performance from the final hardware as if its no better than the desire I'll be holding off altogether for this "round" :)

I'll be waiting, there is nothing on offer that is a big enough upgrade from my Desire for my liking, maybe when we have moved on to Android 2.5 or whatever and my phone can't comfortably run it or the apps, until then it's a waste for me.

I like the SGS 2 but the screen is too big and don't really like the Samsung Android skin vs. Sense and I can be bothered spending weeks updating my phone to the latest tweaked ROM just to get something working how it should have been in the first place. :)

It will be interesting to see just how popular these are and what the manufacturers will have if anything to offer against the Iphone 4GS come this autumn.

I've gone for the SGS2 myself. I have a Hero currently and it really is rather crippled now, it doesn't have enough memory, RAM or speed to even run simple apps, let alone games. The SGS2 seems to be the quickest of the bunch so far, so hopefully it won't feel slow in a year and a half like my Hero has.

I do really like Sense and the latest iteration on the Sensation looks superb so I do keep wondering if I've made the right choice, but I am looking forward to seeing what the Samsung experience is like. I figure if I don't get along well with it, I can probably sell it and grab a Sensation anyway.

TheVoice, the Hero's specs were being strained when it was released, it was a bit hit and miss. The Desire/SGS haven't suffered from this problem and the SGS2 certainly wont :)

It was nice and nippy when I first got it, but I imagine that as apps have started to grow bigger and better, the Hero simply can't keep up. The OS update to 2.1 didn't help things either, it was noticeably quicker and less laggy on the version prior.

In any case, that won't be any of my concern in a few weeks time. :D

A friend and I have both gone for the SGS2, we compared the specs of it against the Hero's specs on the HTC website the other day. Many laughs were had!

So, what's coming out in the next 6 months that really interesting?

iPhone 5? Still a bit bored of iOS, hoping for major changes :(
Motorola Titan? That won't be sold in the UK :(
Nokia WP7 phone? Sexy, but could be off the pace still :(
3rd gen* Android phone from Sony Ericsson? Stealing the thunder from NGP before Christmas? No chance... :(

Any others?

Oh yeah... WHITE iPhone 4GSti! :D Imma in the queue already!!

*High end ST-Ericsson SoC, cutting edge Sony OLED screen/camera parts and built like the PRS readers etc.

I'm currently torn between the Atrix and the Sensation but I'll have my mind made up by the time I get around to getting one

SGS2 mainly because, as far as i can tell, HTC have started locking down their phones meaning that modders are more likely to take the SGS2 up.
