Thinking about the pollution some country's are getting at the moment, I was thinking why don't we get all our powers needs by converting water into Oxygen and Hydrogen - very easily done even at 12volts in a car!

Obviously the reason is money, ie, all the big oil producing companies would go out of business and nobody would make money out of water, except the government when they tax it!!
Why moan then about pollution when it's easily remedied??

You realise you need electricity to do this right?
More electricity than you could ever generate with that volume of hydrogen in a fuel cell or combustion?

Well that's that sorted, when can we switch our energy to your company that is providing this pollution free, easily generated energy ?

Ah yes, the old "it's a conspiracy theory by big oil to increase profits" gag...

Do you read the guardian by chance*? Most of the commenters on there seem to be conspiracy theorists as well...

*I do, however hope I'm not like what seem to be the majority of the readership, or at least those who participate in comments...!

I read recently that Nigerians burned 100,000 tons of contraband fuel.

Remember the pollution in france couple of weeks ago, i think that can be attributed to the Nigerians burning through tons of oil and causing massive smoke clouds that have moved up.

They said the recent smog was from sahara desert but i bet its from Nigerians burning through oil.

Also another bp oil spill, this time in lake Michigan. http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2014/03/see_photos_of_coast_guard_oil.html :(

A few Nigerian bonfires are probably not going to have a noticeable effect against the 90 million barrels of oil we use every day globally.

100000 tons is a lot of oil to burn through. Will generate a significant emissions cloud.

Oil spill in fresh water lakes is also very serious, that is used for water consumption and irrigation for food. Its a disaster and the media not even reporting on it.

They would rather worry about co2 lol.

+1

Due to the laws of thermodynamics electrolysing water into hydrogen and oxygen and then recombining them using a hydrogen fuel cell to generate electricity creates less electrical energy output than is needed to power the electrolysis.

The use of hydrogen as a fuel is not going to "give" you any new energy - instead it is a method to store energy - similar to an electrical battery. As with a battery, if you charge it up and then discharge it - it won't create new energy.

nonsense - go back to school.

The only viable way to really produce hydrogen is via planned new gen Nuclear power stations.

Unfortunately until we ssubstantially reduce the human population and subsequently the amount of resources we need this will still continue day after day.

If it's that easy, why don't you do it?

You need electricity first. Had this arguement too many times with my dad. Who thinks he's uber clever as done this experiment 40 years ago in school.
