Polygraph - Jeremy Kyle

I just saw a link to a Jeremy Kyle episode on my Facebook feed, they used a polygraph to determine whether a lay about had affairs and so on. Anyway, these tests aren't 100% accurate, they're not allowed in court so I'm just curious as to why it's okay to ridicule(even more!) people on TV with the results when they could potentially be complete nonsense?

I get embarrassed every so often about practically anything. Sometimes on occasions where I've seen something, if it's later brought up - despite it having no impact on me whatsoever, I randomly get flustered! So, I imagine I'd fail a lie detector test instantly for practically anything! Even the thought of being asked an intimate questions gets my heart rate going.

It's mentioned on the show they're not 100% accurate and they don't hide that fact.

Ah right. Even then, I'd imagine a large percentage of the audience and mindless participants will believe the test results, no matter how much it's disputed.

Out of the thousands of people who have been given one on the show.... ~a hundred? have been correctly protesting their innocence when Jeremy rips into them.

Yep, many people are easy to fool with pseudo science, I also find it pretty shocking the FBI and CIA waste money on this sort of rubbish...

At the risk of sounding elitist - it's the Jeremy Kyle show, we're not talking about something important here and the people do choose to go on there knowing what it is like.

It narks me slightly that Jezza has so much faith in lie detector results that he can ridicule often vulnerable people on TV and get paid handsomely for it.

I would like to wire him up to it and ask if he was an aloof, exploitive and shamefully profiteering man before shoving said machine sideways up his pumper.

You may have concluded that I am not a fan.

They claim on the show that although it isnt 100% accurate it is 96% accurate which is blatant bull**** as anyone who has watched Trisha can confirm as half the time on Trisha the results come back "inconclusive" whereas JK seems to be able to get a definite answer every time...hmmmmmmmmmm
