The "poo cakes" have a high calorific content and burn easily

exactly, what they don't know wont hurt them, provided it's sterilised properly to remove germs and bacteria it's pretty much the same as any other fat they use. I can understand people wanting to know where their products come from, but some people just worry too much .

Doesn't this have the same problems as municipal waste incineration in that it relies on and you encourage a waste stream badum tsh

It's also possible to run medium-scale turbines from burning the "dirty" methane given off from landfill sites. They put a concrete cap over it all, and burn the gases that escape through a small chimney. Because the gases are so dirty it wears out the turbine fairly quickly, but it's apparently quicker to just install a brand new turbine every month rather than purifying the gas.
