Poor FEAR performance with X1950 pro 512MB

i must have had 2 dud ati cards then, everything else in the system was upgraded apart from the hdd's!

It was probably a software conflict. Cards either artifact or they work. Very rarely get something in between.

You need 1.5Gb or more RAM for decent performance on any recent game. Even BF2 loves 2Gb! And i certainly love max settings! :D

lol, oops. Not a memory problem then.

Disagree. Even at medium my BF2 would page to disc as it was runing at of ram. That was on an x800 pro at 1280 x 1024 medium settings. 2 gigs later it was running fine on high.

I played and completed Fear maxed out on an x1800 XT with an A64 3500+, ran great. :)

I think FEAR must be coded well.

I played the single player start to finish with a XP2500+ w/ 1Gb RAM and an AGP 7600GS. It ran really well on medium settings. I'm now playing the excellent (and free) multiplayer version where there's a lot more going on and it really more than holds its own, very pleased.

there a couple og points in the game where it writes to disc even on my [email protected], 2 gig n 8800 but constant stuttering... shouldnt realy happen on medium textures with 1 gig

Ran FEAR last night and it ran superbly. This was only @ 1024x768 at first then upto 1280x960 with every setting maxed out. 4xAA and 8XAF. The reason I don't use 6xAA and 16xAF is that the difference is minimal from screenshots I studied a while ago so there is no point. This is all on 1 gig of RAM.

I'll try up to 1680x1050 later on but I think my card will start to struggle a little.

I have a set of Corsair TwinX 2x512mb with LED's lying about. Should they work with the Gskill?. Also would I lose dual channel if all four slots were used?. I know 2T will have to be used and my overclock might come down a little. Also would it be good enough to just add 1 512mb stick?.

Sorry about all the questions  :D .

Can't complain at my 1950XTX setup with 2GB of corsair RAM.

Runs a treat with everything flat out. 1600x 1200 I think.
In it's own little stress routine 100% above 50fps

But then I am being greedy with two of them in Crossfire mode. :D
