Hi everyone,
I`ve just bought my gx2 and in fsx with settings on ultra high (traffic on medium/high), aa on, dx10 off and ansiotropic filtering i`m only seeing ~9 fps at heathrow when on the runway (PMDG 747, goes to ~13fps with standard 747)

Spec as follows:
9800gx2
xfx 780i
q6600 3.6ghz
4gb geil
1920x1200

All settings on the card are on default.
I know fsx has issues with sli but does it also have problems with this gx2?
My single gtx peformed about the same so i`m a bit dissopointed dispite the higher 3dmark score.
Am i missing something that i have to change in the settings? ?(either fsx or card??)

Cheers in advance for any help,
Smegle

Well the GTX isn't really that much worse than the GX2. And since FSX isn't great for SLi, you wont really see much, if any, increase in performance. FSX is a very very demanding game anyway and i dont think anyone is able to run it perfectly on ultra high. Im afraid you'll need to turn the settings down.

Im guessing you have updated the game with the latest patch?

I have read that the 9800x2 doesn't like AA, maybe turn off this in options and maybe you will see an increase in performance

would have been interesting to see results for 2x8800GT, and cheaper :)

doesnt flight sim use a lot of cpu power ?
i remember getting a massive boost when i went dual core yet nothing changed when i went from a 7800gt to 8800gts

well that doesn't soundgood since he has a Q6600 @3.6 - I say it's time to return the game to MS and demand a refund if it is unplayable (9fps) with his specs

If it only worked like that. I'm returning Crysis because it won't run on my 486DX4 with 128MB RAM.

If the guy turns his settings down the game will run fine. There are patches being made all the time so I'm guessing it will be patched to take advantage of the hardware sooner or later.

Nymis,
i have acceleration installed, that has the latest patch on right?

i`m running crysis and cod4 fine, its just this that is really annoying me as fsx is the main reason for building this rig.
i`ll try running without aa on. should i then enable aa in nvidia monitor?

has anyone else tried running this on ultra high?

there was a patch to enable support for dualcore/multicore as it doesnt support it out of the box

Could be because as he says, FSX has problems with SLi, and hes trying to play it with SLi, so hes getting problems.

yeah that was service pack 1 i believe.

so my 9800gx2, although it only using 1 pci slot, its effictively running sli?

if so i`m gutted, thought i was getting a card that would eat up fsx as that has been my aim since the bogger came out!
still i see on youtube people running ultra high with better framerates than i`m getting. so annoying

Yes, its 2x GTS's stuck together in SLi.:(

IF FSX doesn't support SLi, then your only running it with 1x 8800 GTS, as the other card gets disabled in non SLi supported games, could explain the low frame-rates, if it is only using 1x card as SLi isn't supported, or it is, but has problems so doesn't run well.

well i think that confirms the thoughts then.
The gx2 is a great card but only if the game supports it. i think it should mention that more specifically though when you buy the card i.e. full benefits only utilised when using an sli approved/ utilised game.

any body know if there`s a patch coming for fsx that will enable sli to be utilised?

seems that microsoft should address the issue with the current gx2 from nividia and the latest ati card both supporting single pci with dual gpu processor (unless i`m getting confused)

been playing around with it and i`m getting average of 23 fps with my non pmdg planes. hope fully a patch`ll be out soon to address the 10fps hit i`m getting when using my pmdg 747

I don't think Aces (the Microsoft Games Studio behind FSX) are planning on releasing any more updates for FSX - I think I remember reading on Phil Taylor's blog that they're done with FSX and are moving onto the next version.

As has already been said, FSX runs better with a single powerful GPU, such as an 8800 GTX / Ultra or 9800GTX. Using add-on aircraft will always cripple FPS because they are far more complex than the standard aircraft models. Unfortunately, none of your options (turn down graphics settings, fly with less complex aircraft models, overclock/upgrade your CPU and GPU) will allow you to use your GX2 to its full capacity in FSX.

This and this are interesting threads to read.
The good thing about FSX is that it's very configurable, and you can (nearly) always find boosts to performance. :)

i`m a bit confused with the first thread thinked, does anybody on here have experience in doing this?

reference the second thread, are these tweaks still valid with acceleration?

The first thread is a link to a way of changing the type of .DDS files in the scenery folder which FSX uses, making it a smaller file and thus speeding FSX up.

Most of the tweaks are still very valid post-Acceleration (which I have). :)
