Some of you may know of my cat Ace ( the Bengal )

He has been very poorly recently, he lost the use of his back legs, he is only 11 months old

Took him to vets and after 2 visits the referred him to a neurologist in Newmarket

anyway over course of last few days the poor little bugger has had to endure

Blood tests
Xrays
MRI scan
2 spinal fluid tests
Abdomen ultrasound
2 sets of nerve conductivity tests
fluid collected from lymph nodes
2 Biopsies
Menengitis tests

anyway mosts tests were negative except for the nerve conductivity ones

we are waiting on some inflamation/infectious disease test results from a lab in France which are due in next day or so

Biopsy results due end of week

and some Neuron test results from the US due in about 3 weeks

hopefully the last one will be negative

anyway he seems to be improving at the moment and is back home for now

he has a total of 6 areas shaved from various procedures

the good bit is he can now stand for the fist time in over a week, his walking is still awkward but things are looking better :)

Infectious disease test clear

Not sure if good news or not but seeing as he is improving daily I don't see a lot to worry about

He can now get up and down stairs, albeit slowly

A big improvement from not being able to stand a week ago :)

Any news on Ace there, Rotty? :).

Nothing new, he seems to be improving slowly but is certainly improving

still waiting on 2 sets of test results :)

Had a letter with some of the findings , will scan and post it later

Final results are back

The motor neurone tests from the USA were clear

they also did some nerve stain tests which showed some dead nerve tissue

the final diagnosis is distal neuropathy ( axonopathy )

http://www.fabcats.org/breeders/inherited_disorders/bengal.php

normally this is degenerative and incurable, fortunately in Bengals it can be self limiting and 57% of them recover

He is now back to about 85% of his former self and improving by the day so things are looking good :)

He's as good as back to normal ( pain in the arse ;) ) now

Final bill was £3,775

looks like insurance will be ok as they have paid forst part of claim

best bit though is when I got a letter from More Than pet insurance their address is Ceefa Deefa House :p

I was completely unaware, until now of what was happening to your cat. It kind of hit home, given that you and I got our Bengals at roughly the same time.

Is he improving by himself without any medication?

Also, one thing I noticed is that he has black spots on his skin. Is this correct or are the spots only on his fur?

he is virtually back to normal now without any treatment

not sure with the spots, he did have a very small amount of fur left so not sure whether the spots are on skin but I would say they are

are your 2 ok ?
