HI guys,

I've recently upgraded, heres my spec:

MSI HD 7990 6144MB GDDR5
Intel Core i7-3770 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W)
Gigabyte Z77-G1-Sniper M3 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro ATX
850w corsair PSU
6GB gskill ripjaw DDR3

I was forced to upgrade due to some accidental water damage on my previous pc (the mrs... dont ask!) and to be honest i've been quite disappointed with the 7990's performance. I thought after reading various benchmark reviews of how powerful the 7990 was it wouldn't break sweat running games such as rome TW 2 however the performance was pretty sub standard. I'm thinking it might be to do with the drivers? But having always used nvidia cards im a bit lost with regards to the optimising the catalyst settings and which drivers to use.

I'm currently using the 13.10 beta drivers however previously tried the 13.4. Is there something im missing?

Thanks

ok thanks for the comments chaps, so I should overclock basically to boost performance?
I've got a corsair H80 cpu cooler, will that do the job for Overclocking? I'm going to try Bf3 and i've tried Natural selection 2 which to be fair runs nicely, but i would expect it to on a high end ish system.

Thanks freddie, had i have known that i probably would have gone with a larger single core card titan or something similar, its so annoying to see only 30 fps on rome 2 TW.

Will overclockers exchange my 3770 for a k? I know they're very good with RMA's for faulty products but does anyone have experience with exchanging for other products?

so i guess exchanging my 7990 for a titan will do the trick if i want to be able to play rome on anything other than medium settings... so annoying as the 7990 isnt exactly a poor card :(

been reading a fair bit on the TW forums, seems everyone is having the same issue, shocking performance on high end systems, guess its a game issue :/ just installing crysis 3 to see what the gfx are like but BF3 ran maxxed out on ultra perfectly...

ocuk will accept the 7990 back if it's within 14 days - though I wouldn't think of getting a Titan. RTW2 will improve hugely with Crossfire support with driver updates and game patches.

I've only had the cpu for 7 days so i ll send it back and get a 3770k and look to overclock. I've seen a benchmark of rome with a titan today with an average of 30 fps so same story as far as performance is concerned. I'll stick with the 7990 as im happy with its performance on the other games i have and play.

Thanks for the comments chaps, I've just sent back my 3770 for a refund and ordered a 3770k it's arriving tomorrow and I ll give it a go at overclocking it.

As far as my card is concerned do you think I should stick with the 7990? I mentioned previously about getting a titan but I'm not sure if there would be any notable performance increases... I've read some negative things about at drivers too that worries me..

As long as you are running 13.8 of the drivers or later you should be fine as long as you are not running a multi-screen setup for gaming.

If the 7990 was still £825 I would swap it for a Titan, at £525 its a steal I would not swap it for a Titan, with the assumption that you are using a single screen for gaming.

They will fix the drivers for smooth multi-screen gaming, looks like it will be within the next driver release in 6-8 weeks time.

I will stick with it i think.

So I've swapped out the 3770 for the k version but i cant seem to adjust any frequency settings in the bios.... it shows as the k version in the bios but everything is set to auto and doesnt allow me to change anything i.e hit enter on the desired field and nothing... no drop down box on the cpu ratio etc.... Do i need to do anything to the bios?

just thought i'd let you chaps know i swapped out the 3770 for the k and im now running a stable oc at 4.5ghz :D

Something i have noticed with my 7990 though, during 3d applications or games it makes a buzzing noise the noise stops when alt tabbed to desktop or upon quitting the game, I ve heard of coil squeal do you think this could be related?
