The i7 6700K will handle a GTX 1070 much better than a locked i5. There are quite a few videos on youtube that show bottlenecking with an i5 and GTX 1070 at 1080p in certain games.

nice does that mean it probably is the cpu then? was thinking of upgrading to the 5820k recommend anything other than this?

I would say it would be the cpu holding you back. You could just put an i7 4790/K into your current board as a cheaper upgrade option. The 'K' is unlocked for overclocking if you have a Z87/Z97 chipset board.

i am planning to create a new build its just getting the cash to do so so i have no problem with getting a new motherboard but is the 5820k sufficient enough for high end gaming within the next 2-3 years?
