I'm looking to upgrade my current PC.

AMD Athlon 3000+ @ 2.0ghz
1gb DDR Ram
250gb Hd
GeForce 6800 GS
MSI K8N Neo4-F Motherboard
400w PSU

I have a tight budget but want to create a solid desktop. I am planning on upgrading my system in two stages (due to financial reasons)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I first want to buy these;

AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 550 3.10GHz Black Edition
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-249-AM

Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 AMD 770 (Socket AM3/AM2+) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-180-GI

Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-039-KS

£198.89

Firstly, is there any incompatability or issue with combining these parts? Is there anything I may be missing etc. And by adding these pieces to my current build will I be okay with my 400w PSU???

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once I have the money I will then add these to the build;

Asus GeForce GTX 260 TOP 896MB GDDR3 Graphics Card

Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 550W ATX2.2 Modular SLi Compliant Power Supply
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-020-BQ&tool=3

£199.98

Again, is there any issue you guys can see with these additions?

yep its PCI-E x16 :D

Thanks for the heads up. Do you think it should be okay to upgrade the powersupply like this at the last minute.

Also, do AM3 processors run in AM2 motherboards or no?

The 400w psu should be fine as power requirements haven't really changed. Also yes that motherboard is capable of am3 cpu's, however it may require a bios update to accept the newer ones.

(just a note, I just finished a build for my sister using that motherboard, amd x4 940 and a 4650 and it runs perfect from a 400w power supply)

can throw you couple of unwanted components: [email protected]

Just go to your local dump (recycling centre) thats where I got my old pc's until I saved enough to buy one.

Managed to get:
Pioneer DVD rw
Beige/White case
Athlon XP 2100+
Asus motherboard
FX5500
768mb ram
400watt psu.

That was completely free. Just ask a guy there can you have one to fix your pc at home.

lol, I have HD4870, 4gb OCZ Platinum Ram and 500W PSU!

I do not neet them, because I've build 3 pc's: gaming for myself, + for parents and sister - and this parts left, due to upgrades, etc.
