any idead on how i can solve this as its turned into an expensive dvd player

1080i (interlaced) isn't really suitable for PC use.

You should use a progressive resolution that matches or is as close to your TV's actual resolution as possible. And if possible, disable "overscan" on the TV.

isnt it because 1080i is an upsacled resolution.

Mine looks pap on windows. to imporve your dispplay set it to its native res of 1366 x 760 you will notice a difference.

Also remember u will need to setup your screen via its menu, best bet is to find a guide for your tv on avforums.com

Basically 1080i is a pap res, change to 1366 x 760 will be fine. Load up a blu-ray and see the difference, text will never look as good as a proper pc monitor as they are different technologies. (i dont know the technical aspects of the differences :p)

not exactly, interlaced can look very respectable.

anyway, 1366x768 would be the native resolution of the display if its not 1080p (i assume it isnt but krisbulter didnt give us the model number) BUT chances are it wont be selectable over hdmi. for hdmi, 720p (1280x720) woudl be the preferred choice.

ive never understood why people say this :/

i seem to remember something about dvi frequency causing problems over hdmi on ati cards and chipsets? i know theres an option to disable high frequency something or other for dvi. try to find this and turn it off if you can, might help
