Thanks

You could post the stats mrbios did for starters.

what does Latency: INTERLEAVED mean?

It means Sky are lazy and take the easy way out when it comes to dealing with errors.
It wouldn't cut into your speeds like that (and would generally give you a more stable connection than without) but you would see increased latency..

Hopefully this is correct, sorry 1st time doing this, so not had experence

windows media HD clips, I use that as a rough speed test as that site really pushes my speeds limit. atm from that site u gave if i'm pulling 1meg i'm lucky. 2moz i'm going to Phone Sky and see if they can give any ideas, as this has been happening quite often throughout the past couple of weeks.

Hi

What OS are you using?

How are you connecting to your router is it wireless or wired ?

As tolian has already said the stats for the line are pretty good. It could be that you need to tweak the RWIN values of your machine as this could be the cause but first let us know the answers to the above.

Win XP and using Wired, going through the RealTek (I think) LAN port.
What are the RWIN values, as I havn't heard of them before.
thanks for all of your help better than Sky, all they said 2 to was scan 4 ad-ware/spyware

Hi

The RWIN settings are basically the size of data that the machine can receive before telling the other machine to send more. On Windowx XP the value is meant to be dynamic but aooccasionally you need to tweak it.

Have a look at the following page for more info

http://www.speedguide.net/tcpoptimizer.php

Also there is a well known program you can use called DrTCP that you can easily use to alter the Rwin value.

Ok update, desktop is still runnis as slow as normal, but wired on laptop i'm getting full speeds. As far as i no the laptop settings are the same as the desktop, i am now totally confussed

Are you running ZoneAlarm on your desktop? I found a bug in ZA that cut my max speed by a third. Uninstalling it, NOT disabling it, cures the problem.

Hwne you got full speed on the laptop was that using the same network cable as was connecting to the desktop ? if not then try the cable you used on the laptop going to the same port on the router as when trying with the laptop but this time connect to the desktop just to rule out any issues with the cable or network port on the router.

If the desktop is still slow then is pointing to a setting on the machine more than on the router.

took router cable from desktop and put it in2 laptop went on net through that, then pluged it back in2 desktop still connected 2 same port on router. Laptop full speed, desktop slow speed. Speed'sa now gone back 2 slow

i think mine was just being tested or something, had a disconnect about 30mins ago and up until that it was awful speeds, reconnected at a strange 700kbps then restarted the router to see the usual 3300kbps and now im downloading at 210kb, i suppose im happy enough with that, at least im back on the speeds i was at before moving house (even if i could have got 8mb there now :( )

OK so that proves it it virtually 100% certain to be a setting on the desktop PC and not an issue with the broadband or cabling.

I would look at increasing the Rwin value on the desktop and see if that helps.
