Two weeks ago I discovered my rear light seals had worn and had let a nice little pond form in the back of the boot. Water + cars = bad. Rust has started to eat through the boot. After some sanding, proding and grinding I was left with lots of bare metal, and 4 nice holes. To add insult to injury, there was also water getting into the passanger side footwell due to the last owner taking out the wheel arch liner for some reason or another!
Its resulted in me totally stripping the teg, sanding down as much as I can, filling the holes with an alu mesh & bodyfiller combo and now repainting it all.

I just thought I'd pop up a few piccys to show how sorry for itsself its looking.

In bits up on stands

Drivers footwell, still needs painted

Boot fillered. Its not pretty but god damn it wont rust again

While there is no front bumper I removed the resonator box (and also took a headlight apart and polished the glass inside as it was a little dirty)

I have a few piccys of the car before I started fixing it, will get them off my other phone so you can see how bad the rust was!

Awesome, now stick it on a trailer and see what it drives like on track as it is (plus a seat and harness/belt obviously) :D

Looks like a tidy job. Wish I had the space and skill to do that myself if needed.

Don't give him any ideas! I'm trying to convince him to get the car back to normal as soon as possible! :p

Unlucky dude. Ive got some rust issues with mine although not quite as severe as that.

Once you've got it all re-painted get some waxoyl pumped into the box sections etc while its stripped out.

Filling over rust is a total waste of time, you need to cut the rot out and let in good metal...
:)

I did, i used a wire brush rotary tool and took it back to bare metal, filled it and will now paint it.

I'm liking the stripped out idea....I dont need back seats anyway...

This has just made me realise : My car has been sat with water in the footwell for 7 months :( Best take a look at it this weekend.

How old is the car?

Was the rust right through?

Only ask because I thought the Teg was relatively new and not old enough to suffer bad rust problems.

Good Luck though. :)

1996 mate, the DC2s are getting on a bit now. Rust was right through, though it didn't look like it at first, the rusty metal just flaked away when I prodded it.

neil-ste: Hope yours has fared better than mine!

Poxy light seals, mine have done this on a 5th gen Lude. Massive pool of water sloshing around in the boot, and the car smells uber-damp as a result. :(

I advise fixing it asap! Going to be sealing them up with silcon sealant to make sure it doesn't happen again. To buy new seals is £50 from honda, sealant is £5 :)

Making some progress, its so annoying only having 1-2 hours a night after work to get things done! Rear lights are sealed with about an entire tube of sealant so they won't leak again. I've undersealed the car while its up on stands too just because I had a few cans of the stuff.

Front bumper removed to get at my headlights to take them apart and clean the inside of them

Totally gutted the interior and started to paint it

Weird shot sitting inside your car when its hollow!

Bought car a little present to make it feel better

Got half way through fitting the decat tonight and finally got fed up of the seized bolts on the cat and went home. Next week I have to paint and fit my EP3 brakes, steam clean the interior and stick it back in, claybar, wax etc and then enjoy driving around in a non leaking car!
Driving a slow car these fast few weeks will be the best performance mod you could do to the teg. It will feel crazy when I finally get back in it. I'm glad I can get this excited about being able to drive my own car!
