Looks like tesco's made a bit of a mistake yesterday. They where selling XBOX 360, forza and another game for 34.99. It seems that someone forgot to put a 0 at the end.. hahahahaha

Wonder if they will honour the prices or if they will do the same thing that ASDA did the other day and just cancel all the orders

Why 'poor'?

They won't have to honour the price as it's such a blatant mistake.

Especially due to the fact it got plastered all over HotUKDeals and people were ordering 40 at a time...

Yes but if something is displayed for a price, they have to honour it, otherwise its classed as 'false advertising'....someone should be checking these kinda things b4 they go on display lol

No in the terms and conditions they are sold at the price in the store that day.
and to buy you agree to the t&c's. so they don't have to honour internet prices.

no, i tried to buy one as did a mate of mine.

her ordered 2 and his dad ordered 5. he then called up after putting in his order and they said they would not honour it as it was a mistake....

Regardless of in store or internet, they are under no obligation to sell you it for that price, or any price for that matter.

Nuts, better tell the bird to cancel her 5 and I better cancel my 6 then :(

I didn't think they'd let it slide, given how many people heard about it in such a short space of time. It's gonna cost them a bomb in credit card refund charges etc..

According to sources on El Reg (shovel of salt at the ready):

"I am proud to state that me and my mates were on to this from the off. At about 11am our desk got a tip-off that the Virgin Megastore website was selling xbox bundles for £35. Considering Virgin are in the middle of being sold off at the moment this could have been a genuine mistake or a disgruntled employee - we will never know! We managed to get 2 before experiencing technical issues when one of my team (lets call him K) banged xbox into a couple of price comparison websites and bingo! Up popped tesco's - at the rather unusual price of £33.43. It took about a second for the penny to drop. It was obvious that Tesco were using an automatic price checker system to search the net for the cheapest price, take 1p+5% off and then repost the price as their own. Although Virgin were foolish to post their price they did pull it very quickly. Tesco, however, are very much the fool who followed and I'm sorry but they deserve to lose out on this one."

Depends, I got a 9800xt 256Mb for £88 when they were worth £250 from an e-tailor. There was a cut-off point (something like 4am) where they stopped honouring the orders. A bloke who ordered 10 got only 2.

in store im pretty sure they have to sell it for the price it is on the shelf not the bar code.

*think that's why a lot of the price tags/offer things on shelves actually have an expiry date*

False Advertising is something different.

They don't have to sell you it at all.

The shelf price is not a binding contract of any kind, they could quite legitimately just refuse to sell it to you. They could quite legitimately refuse to sell you anything from the shop on the basis your credit card number has an odd number of even numbers on it and they didn't like it if they wanted.:p

It's all to do with the invitation to treat stuff, which I don't know in enough detail to explain properly, though i'm sure google/wiki would help if no one else feels like explaining it either.

Stores do not have to sell at the price displayed. It goes back to the old trading laws where the price is basically an invitation to bid on a product. The seller has to agree to sell at that price and money handed over before its a done deal.

No no no no no no no.

This is a common comment made by all people who have no idea what they're talking about.

I used to work in Harrods and sometimes items would be priced wrongly by mistake. We'd get people coming up to the customer services desk and saying "but you HAVE to sell it at this price, it's the law!"

It's not the law. The law actually says that if an item is priced wrongly the store has the option to withdraw if from sale for 24 hours and reprice it. The law isn't always inflexible and uncompromising - in some cases it does make allowances for human error.

I've just been reading up on this as i ordered a couple... I was thinking i could fleabay then and put the money towards my new computer :)

Anyway, if the do not inform the customer before the item is sent out then they have entered into the contract with you and they have to supply the item.

Also if they send out the wireless pack without doing the above, then they have to supply what is advertised, or they can be sued. So basically if they don;t contact you and you get a wireless pack in the post, then you are laughting.
