pop-up Sites with IE7`

i normally use Firefox as my browser and have found it great, but I tried IE7 and was dissapointed to see that whatever site I visit, more windows start opening without any choice by me. Drivecleaner was one of the first but there are quite a few others as well.

I am running XP Home with free Zone Alarm, Avast anti-virus.

Any suggestions what might be wrong? It certainly is rather a concern to me.

MS popup blocker is patchy, that's because unlike firefox IE7 approaches popups as more of a revenue neccessity for sites and filters out only some external scripts. You can still select "Block all popups", which is a pain, but the only way to get it work at all.
