This is the noise my Corsair HX650 just made mid-game. Pretty sure it's dead, there is some suspicious dust that came from it's fan that wasn't there yesterday.

I don't have anything that can work as a paperclip handy to do the paperclip test but the motherboard isn't even lighting up (it always does on standby) so it's pretty obvious that it's a gonner. Also, the psu was braided so no chance of an RMA.

I don't have another PSU handy to plug in but what do you guys reckon - do you think the corsair took one for the team and my hardware is okay? Or is that overly hopeful :( I didn't smell any smoke or see any damage to any other parts of the system so maybe there is a chance?

I would be surprised if it has taken your hardware out!

My Enermax went bang couple of years ago, all was ok when I tried a spare PSU.

My Corsair HX620 died slowly over a few days then took the motherboard out with it. They sent me back a new PSU and a 32GB USB pen to say sorry.

My corsair went pop. RMA'd. No problems with rest of build. Used their replacement and its still running. I think you will be fine!

I had a Hiper Type R go pop, and it took my mobo with it.

Good excuse for an upgrade, but a right PITA.

is there no sort or protection you can get to stop it blasting the rest of your hardware ?
would this sort of stuff be covered on the house insurance ?

I've had Tagan/Antec/Corsair psus go pop so far, none took a component with them, the Antec psu sounded like a shotgun aswell and shook my room frightened the hell out of me.:D

You should be fine, like others said be very surprised if something died.

I braided the PSU - I assume that makes my warranty void? I didn't open it up at all, I just cut the stock braid off and put my own on? Pics in my build log in sig - do you think I will be able to RMA it or not?

I doubt brading it has voided the warranty. Providing you have not choped the cables or broken the insulation I cant see them having a problem. Id RMA and see what they say you cant lose trying.

I had 2 Targans go on me in fantastic fassion. Huge bang and that was it luckily the server it was powering was fine after a new PSU was put in.

Had a coolermater psu blow on me last year. It certainly made me jump out of the chair when it went. Was lucky it did not take any hardware with it. Hope it replaced soon

RMA it the worst that can happen is they say no and you have wasted postage.
I hope it has taken nothing with it :(
