Exactly, even on older games cheaters are still very active.

Recently got around to playing BF1 for the first time and every other server had at least 1 cheater on. It's not even subtle either, invisible people and you can only see the gun moving around after they've killed you.

Anti-cheat software is great, but the ability to kick cheats via a vote in-game is one of the best ways. Yes it can be manipulated by big enough groups but it's faster than reporting them to CS.

the blatant ones get banned and valve won't ban straight away either they do them in batches.

they do have a trust system. if he gets reported for cheating it effects his trust rating to the point he is playing with griefers and other cheaters.

then you have overwatch system in place.

then there are cheats which are still undetected which is why faceit uses it's own anticheat software too.
