I never got into the HP books though I was bought the first as a gift, even as a kid I found it a bit of a weak story and I was much more interested in authors like Tad Williams.
The HP movies were enjoyable enough to start with, I found they became tedious after the first three.
Lord of the Rings is by far the more superior work, both in written and movie form, although the less said about The Hobbit movies the better.
Hardly comparable given The Warlock of Firetop Mountain was a game book that could be played through within a handful of hours. I loved the Fighting Fantasy series and owned pretty much all of them, but they're ultimately games and even removing that aspect they're not in the same league as something like LOTR to anyone being remotely objective.

No, it was only the first and it pulled in lots of western myths, personally i found the entire trilogy pretty boring and only read it/watched due to genre.
Besides "the warlock of firetop mountain" was way better.
