Has anyone else been swept in by facebook? It is possibly even more addictive than the OCUK forums! In Edinburgh it has become a phenomenon with hundreds signing up each week since it launched here at Ed in April.

Everyone (well, a large majority) here at Durham uni is hooked on this! It is pretty addictive!

Yeah, it's really taken off at Grey in the last few weeks among us first years. And for those asking what on earth it is, the best way of describing it would be as an online photo album / place to put contact details with you being able to link friends to your profile so they are alerted when new photos are put up etc. It's a great way to kill time when you've sat down to get some work done.

You can spend hours on facebook, not good when you've got work to do:D. Trying to get my friends to join as it's better than most other similar sites.

What is it?
It's just another one of these social networking sites which seem to be plagueing the internet now. One of the more successful ones, I might add. They utilise word of mouth and peer pressure to gain a huge userbase, collect all your information to sell off to evil companies* and rely on naive computer users to click their ads :)

I've heard its addictive. An ex of mine is always going on about it, but my uni isn't registered on there yet :( so I can't really experience it boo.

My friends here are all fond of bebo. They tried to sign me up on it but im not really interested tbh.

It's ridiculous, everytime I pop into the library there's tens of people just on face book being socially perverse.

So I joined up today *sighs* I only have eight friends though hahah..

edit - a few days a university wide email went round reminding people that they're libel for what they put on a public website. Apparently somebody on our course (rumour has it) slagged off our faculty and now has been called in to see some very high up people!

Not to be the 'I was there before it was cool' guy, but I got it about 16 months ago and got bored of it about a week later.
A lot of people at uni here love it (most, in fact), but I just dont get it. Suddenly texting or phoning people to invite them out is 'so last year' - people seem to check facebook more than their mobiles now which just seems strange.

A fad IMO, with little actual use.

Its not public though - only people at your university can see your comments..

Joined up myself last week....

I must admit though, it's far better than myspace in my eyes. You can set up your own forums, albums etc.

A few people have harpered me to join and I get way to much emails from people asking me to join other social networking sites, it really bugs me. Tbh I worry I might become addicted to it like I am to forums.
