Porridge... during the lockdown I rediscovered it and now eat it almost every day.

40g oats, 265ml water, bring to the boil then simmer for 3-4 minutes, done.
If I'm feeling adventurous I might stick honey in it.
At one point I was sticking flax seeds chia seeds and stevia in it but it's too hipsterish. I'm working up to just trying it with water and salt, as it was originally intended to be eaten but I'm not there yet.
I just can't eat oats with only water it just really turns me off... it has to be milk. Also, since I started eating oats with 300ml of milk almost every day for a year, my nails and teeth are way stronger.

I mix in salt and drizzle honey on top. The salt really brings out the flavour of the oats - when I'd had it previously without it was just bland sludge :p
That also depends on the oats yo use... for example the ones from Lidl are tasteless whereas ones from other brands are way more flavoursome.

Well guys, in the end I eventually migrated away from porridge... to just oats, milk and honey. Not sure what the exact reason is but I think porridge became inconvenient to make and eat vs oats due to the time cooking it and then the time it needed to cool down etc. When I am waking up in the morning after workouts then my starved brain took the easy option and then it became routine. *shrugs* :o

Maybe one day I will return to porridge. :D

Heating porridge up in a microwave is not only sacrilege, it's also not as tasty.

I know this as I had to microwave my porridge a couple of years ago when I had to replace my failed gas oven.

Just wasn't as creamy or as nice to eat.

Should always be done on a hob for maximum taste IMO, and only takes a few minutes more.
Or get yourself an instant pot... Duo Evo Plus 10-in-1 Multi Pressure Cooker – Instant Pot UK

Clearly not just for porridge, they do tons of stuff and are a big time saver. They also do a mini 3L version Duo 7-in-1 Multi Pressure Cooker – Instant Pot UK

I just buy the Asda 75p for a kg oats. I add them to my morning and evening protein shakes. For the cost of all other foods, 75p seems like a steal for a kg of food.
Honestly, oats have to be one of the best value foods on the planet and I hope the Ukraine conflict doesn't significantly change that in terms of cost or supply. While I no longer eat porridge, my oats, milk and honey are an essential part of my day. :)

Porridge in the morning is my favourite meal of the day, really sets me up for hours.

How come you gave it up?
Three things mainly:

1) It's more of an effort to make and eat vs a bowl of oats and milk and in the end I realized I don't enjoy it more (I really love oats, milk and honey).

2) A bowl of porridge needs far less oats and milk due to how much they expand when you cook them. This means that when I eat porridge I get significantly less calories and protein vs when I eat a bowl of just oats and milk.

3) It's much easier to add and mix supplemental powders to oats and milk than it is to add them to porridge which uses comparatively little milk.
