Hi all,

Last night one of my ports on my router went and died on me. Took me a little while to work out why I had suddenly lost my internet connection and why I couldn't log onto my router I can tell you.

Fortunately, after a little head scratching, I tired another port and that was at least was working. Thus still online. Can anyone give me an idea on the life expectancy of such things? I am using is a netgear WGT624 v3, which has been protecting me against nasties with it's firewall and all that for over 3 years, possibly even 4.

However in the short term I can continue using it, but I am going to be needing at least four ports available to me in the near future.

As I suspect I am out of the warranty period, I think I might *need* to upgrade to a gig router and a separate gig switch. I am need going to need at least 4 ports for the router and at least 6 on the switch. Thinking about it, it isn't going to be so important about the router being gig capable but as the switch will be connected to a media server pushing HD content, it will need to be.

Can anyone make any recommendations?

Thank you for reading.
