According to Portforwarding when using Utorrent my Zyxel router requires its firewall to be off to obtain max download. Now when I check with Shields up it picks up that I am wide open to probing of my ports (ooh err missus:D) When I had my Netgear router all I had to do was forward the ports. I still got the green icon in Utorrent and Shields up gave me a pass on all common tests without disabling my routers firewall. Is it usual to disable the firewall and leave it like that? My router is the P-660HW T1 V2 flavour.

uTorrent has never worked with UPnP on 3 different routers. Azureas never worked either.

I find it odd you have to drop the firewall though. The whole point of opening ports is so you don't have to drop your firewall :/

uTorrent works perfectly fine for me when I use UPnP on my wrt54gl, it also worked fine on my realy old netgear. So are you sure you have UPnP enabled on both the router and the client?

Portforwarding guide said to disable UPnP in Utorrent?(it is still disabled in the client) Not sure were to set it in the Zyxel router. I have just re-enabled the routers firewall and I still have the green icon for Utorrent indicating that my ports are forwarded OK. Shields up cannot now probe my ports:D

If you use UPnP then you dont need to forward any ports manualy or anything like that, it does it all by itself (as long as both router and client have it enabled), without UPnP you have to specificaly forward every port used by uTorrent on the router to your local IP. The firewall shouldn't have to be disabled in either situation.

I've used utorrent on a zyxel 660hw for years and you just need to forward the port, no need to drop the firewall.

I don't like using upnp so just forward the port and job done.

Best to test it on linux distro downloads

utorrent, set upnp
router, set upnp
check windows firewall settings for upnp
