my utorrent has basically stopped downloading/uploading

when i do a port check it indicates that the port is not open -
is there something i can do to recify this?

i noticed a few people have had similar issues with aol recently on here although i am not with them i would like to know the solution

i called my isp, Demon up - they are pretty useless

because my router is my own an not supported by them they wont help me

i have also tried randomising the port i use and it is still coming up with errors

you need to log onto your router and set a static IP, then open ports for UPD and TCP (i think you need both) you router manufacturers support should have some helpful tips, who is it ill have root through their website? (after lunch anyway)

if i disable the routers hardware firewall would this solve the problem?
it looks like it is not working because t is set to standard at the moment [only allows outgoing connections]
where as disabled means that it allows outgoing/incoming

or is there a better way to do it and keep hardware FW in place?

i know its probably stupid to disable it but its only going on my file server and not my main rig
and all the stuff is backed up anyway.

err linky dead....

thats exactly what you need to do you need to stop all incoming traffic BAR the ports you specify, there should be an option when you log into the router to do this, turning it off would be a no no for me. If you http to your routers IP what do you get?

right you looking for the configure page.....im still reading.....

think its in game and application sharing if im reading this right???

Edit - basically go here:

http://www.thomson-broadband.co.uk/codepages/content3.asp?c=7&ProductID=511

and click "user guide"

then in the PDF that opens you want sections: 4.5.2 and 4.5.4 (this one tells you about the TCP/UDP port mapping) any problems with it just ask.

yeah i got that far but dont understand what to configure the ports to and how to set it up on my utorrent

right pick a port...any port....literally any port...try something in the high 20000s thats what I use. open that for TCP and UDP on your router you then need to assign this port to Utorrent which you should be able to specify in utorrent itself (I dont use it so I dont know but im sure its in the options somewhere)

ediT - also make sure randomize port isnt enabled in utorrent.

Also are you using any SW firewalls?

ahh utorrent insructions:

1. To set a single port, navigate to Options > Preferences > Connections
2. Click "random port" once, and note the port number provided. This will be the port number you will be forwarding in your router. (You may also assign a port number of your choice)
3. Uncheck "Randomize port each time µTorrent starts." The port number will no longer change each time µTorrent is started.

That is great dude
