Portable charger reconmendation please

5000mAh is the capacity of the battery, your phone's battery is 2900mAh so you would get almost 2 full charges out of it.

I have the Anker Astro E1 5200mAh, most people on here will likely recommend Anker.

In answer to your question, no it won't fry your battery.

Also note.
If it says 5000mAh that will probably actually equal 4000mAh at best. Usually 80pc efficiency seems a good estimate.

Always go for the biggest you can get.

Pay attention to quick charge too!

It is usually rated mAh at ~3.7 volt but it will be converted to 5V for charging etc. so not the real capacity when comparing against a phone, etc.

I disagree. I bought myself the 10k MAh one which should get me 3-4 charges, but I rarely take it out because it's too heavy. Even with my old dying OnePlus One I'd only ever need one extra charge during the day if I'm using it heavily. Therefore I tend to take out my girlfriend's 3k mAh one which is much smaller and lighter. Depends how much of a heavy user you are really.

I use mine camping. And to charge my surface book. So multiple charges are important to me as well as a massive battery.

My 5200mah anker is plenty for a day trip.
Anything bigger would be too bulky and heavy.

Id only go bigger if you are away for multiple days or want to charge multiple devices.

Here's the decision process I make when buying a portable charger:
  1. What features do I want? I've always tried to get a portable charger with the fast charge protocol my device uses, i.e. Quickcharge or more recently, USB-PD. I always think portable chargers should be able to fast charge as you don't want to be caught in a situation where your phone dies and you have to wait ages to get a decent % of battery
  2. What capacity do I need? This is a balance of portability vs the number of charge cycles I need. I usually assume 1 x charge capacity for every 24 hours I'm away from a plug socket.
  3. Brand. I'll always stick to Aukey or Anker, although my preference is Aukey (I think their build quality is better). I know RAVPower are popular on Amazon and I'll admit I've never owned one of their products, but I was put off by some pictures reviewers left where there was sizeable gaps in the outer casing.
I have a 26,500mAh Aukey portable charger for camping weekends, I bought this after a 10,000 Anker pack didn't last nearly as long enough for four days of Glastonbury. I also have a ~5,000mAh Anker 'lipstick' shaped one which is great when I'm going out for a day or evening.

The Anker PowerCore 10000 is pretty compact, it's almost the same size as my older 5000 ones.

Currently using a 20000 RavPower which supports both QC 3.0 and USB-PD, and although it's quite big, I usually have it in my bag so I have no issues carrying it.
