Portable Hard Drive Broken

Ok so ive dropped my portable hard drive while i was copying files

Obviously not good.
Now the hard drive appears to be dead as when its plugged in to the comptuer it is not recognized. It however is making a noise.

The noise its making isn't a spinning noise but more of a nehhhhhh

Its a 500gb Maxotor external drive.

Any suggestions?

Take it out its enclosure, plug it in directly, hope. And/or you could try the freezer trick.

Double-bag it tight in freezer bags, bung it in the freezer for a few hours. Pull it out, plug it in, sometimes gives you a couple of minutes to retrieve your stuff if the problem's a stuck head or something, before the drive dies completely. Might invalidates your warrantee.. as might taking it out its enclosure, btw

Warranty has passed anyway so anything worth ago.
