Portable HD corrupt?!

I plugged my Samsung USB powered HD into my mates front bay USB ports on his PC, and I think it corrupted it. It still appears in My Computer but reading anything from it takes ages and the windows error box appears (corrupted).

How can I recover it? It may be just the headers and the data is intact?

I find that sometimes the reading drive erro comes up if the drive hasnt been removed safely, or if using between different versions of windows. Does it give the repair option, if it does then select this, there is a risk of losing data, but I haven't found this to happen in practice when I have used it.
