I recently purchased a portable USB HDD, connected it to my desktop and formatted it fine in NTFS and works pretty well. Connected it to my laptop and it just says "atapi-6 bridge controller" in the pop-up then goes into found new hardware wizard but can't seem to install the driver. The drive works with my friends laptop. Anyone how I can get it to work on mine? Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I don't see why it can't give enough juice, it's a new laptop, I did connect both to see if that was the case and it still doesn't work. This kinda sucks cos I bought it so I can transfer files between my laptop and desktop :(

I think it's defo something to do with the OS cos I just tried it with win x64 which I have on my other partition on my laptop and it works fine. Grrr...win32(the one it doesn't work on) is my main windows cos all my hardware(bar this one) actually works with it. Hmmm :(

Okay I got it to work, turns out my OS won't install any new device anymore, even a simple USB keyboard. I reinstalled windows, which was a pain, anywhoo it is installed and working fine.

Problem is, I have a lot of files, everytime I connect the device the search box with the little torch appears and it attempts to search my drive.

Can I prevent this? Make an autorun.ini or .inf file or something? What would I type? Thanks
