" In order to play Portal: Prelude you need to have Steam installed on your system
Portal: Prelude is an unofficial prequel to the game Portal. Its story revolves around the pre-GlaDOS epoch, even before she was plugged in. At this time, test subjects were monitored by real Aperture Science employees whose work was tedious, lengthy and repetitive. This is why they decided to build a great artificial intelligence that could both replace them in these difficult tasks, but also take responsibility for many other tasks within the complex and compete with Black Mesa's superiority. The v1.0.0 is now locally mirrored ".

Im slowly playing through it.... it expects you to have pretty much mastered the original game before playing this. as it definitely throws you straight into the deep end

A lot of the rooms involve randomly throwing yourself while ducking and spinning in mid air so yes if you get stuck it can get old fast

Its easier if you turn off portal funnelling. But yet harder . . . Plus, you need to jump-crouch for a lot of them. Really really really difficult . . . .

I thought it was well made, it looked proffesional with plenty of attention to detail. The ending was certainly better than the flash map pack anyway!

But as has been already mentioned, it was let down by some tricky moments in the puzzles. This wouldn't of been so bad if it was just a case of "well how do I do that then?" but the fact that you worked out how to do it then spent an age jumping and twisting until you just got it right that was so frustraighting.

PK!

I agree with previous comments making it fustrating for the wrong reasons. i want to solve a puzzle, not spend ages ages button bashing untill i get the 'perfect' jump. I remember N-64 Banjo Kazzoie in Rusty Bucket Bay there was this tall structure i couldnt quite reach it, it took me days to jump at just the right moment, it wasnt fun at-all.

Agreed...

The jumps are too hard imo, I'm in level 3 myself just when you get the portal gun upgrade, can't get back to how I came :(. I know how to do it, but I'm too slow and disoriented when I come out of the portal to go in the right direction...

I think the comments in this thread serve to highlight how well Valve did with puzzles in the Source games. Not just Portal, but also the HL2 sections where they give you puzzles that are intelligently crafted and give you a little room for error so that you don't need to get everything pixel-perfect, as long as you've got the right idea and execute it reasonably well. The one exception was the grenades-under-the-flap puzzle in Ep2, they kinda mucked up there because a sprinting ramp-assisted crouch-jump feels like it ought to get you there, but doesn't.

I'm the kinda of guy that really hates puzzles where you can work out what you need to do, but because you mistimed it slightly, it doesn't work, so you keep looking for a different solution, not realising that you actually had it right first time.

Valves original Advanced chambers were also like this though, often need a crouch jump or just ultra fast responses... But I agree that it shouldn't be like that, as long as you have the right idea...

Up to level 9 and enjoying it.

Haven't had to do anything that spectacular yet, although most of the tricks you know already if you've played TFV maps.

always thought of portal as a really fun little game, only played the free version that steam give you, was quick to complete and highly enjoyable. Considering whether this is worth getting, As other games are about to be released.

Working out how to complete the level can be tough, but once you actually know what you've got too do, it's not too bad.

If you played the advanced chambers and the addon maps, then you shouldn't have a problem with anything apart from working out the level.
