Hey guys

I'm about ready to start buildin a website with my portfolio of 3D models and designs on but I'm after some idea's of design's and layouts that would be good for a portfolio

I've got quite a bit of knowledge/experience in html, css, javascript and some very basic experience in php but was gonna stick to html + css as there doesnt need to be any fancy functions or anythin on it, just a clean design with some good information on etc

Also when showing off my 3D work, what would you recommend I should do? simple screenshots with info (maybe usin lightbox or somethin) or possibly the actual .max file for people to download and view?

Thanks in advance :)

Keep it simple. If you want to be flashy, use animated gifs with a low size of file.

Also, because structure is difficult to convey, cut outs of the wireframe help.

Lightbox as suggested above is a great way of displaying images, very simple as well. Simpleviewer is a nice bit of flash you can get to display things if you want a more funky style, easy to configure and there is a free version out there.

I would mock-up the layout in photoshop or your preferred image program first so you can see if your layout works before jumping into the code level. Good luck :)

Thanks for the info guys

I did like lightbox after using it before in a mock-up website for my last place of work. Just looked so simple yet stylish :)

Also, good tip Shoseki about the wireframe/mesh. Should also help to convey what kind of effort has gone into the models

I'll see what I can come up with in regards to layout etc

Argh... is it just me that abhors lightbox?

It used to be cool... years ago.

Don't worry too much about the layout, just make it clean :)
