ports not forwarding correctly

Hi all,

since yesterday ive been having real difficulty forwarding ports, the router (Netgear DG834G) says that they are being forwarded fine, but when it comes to testing them they always seem to be closed still...

ive tried disabling my firewall to check whether its that and they still say closed even when there is no firewall enabled.

it does it with random ports, anything really.

ive also noticed that i cant connect to half of the CS:S servers that i usually play on since yesterday aswell.

I'm with F2S on their unlimited package if that makes any difference.

are you on DHCP by any chance??

DHCP doesn't always behave when forwarding to IPs within it's scope. Try setting a static IP outside the DHCP scope.
Another thought, did you do "port forwarding" or did you add a static router with a port number?? If so you may havemessed up your routing table which would explain not connecting to CS:S stuff.

i used port forwarding, the ports are forwarding nicely now

havent tried CSS yet, not enough bandwidth free to try it

What did you do, move the address out of DHCP?

no, just lowered the port number to something else and changed it in the router from TCP/UDP to just TCP.

seems to be working fine now

what prot number were you using??

it was a random one generated by utorrent, quite high as far as i can remember, 5 digits.

if it's over 65000 ish then it won't work, but if it's generated by the app then it should be ok. Unless your ISP blocks some ports and you just got unlucky.
