Mercedes seem to have found their pace. They do seem to have the edge now.

Taking a line off track limits will do that for you.

It's irrelevant to the outcome. The driver that stitches it together gets the pole - and doing that is a big part of the skill of qualifying - but it's relevant to assessing the relative performance of Red Bull and Mercedes.
If you watch the replay of Max going off track, he appeared to lose traction and slide sending him wide. That's rather more likely to have lost him time than gain him time.

Surely the happy slapper will redeem himself and get some points tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
Best place to start, gets medium tyre against the guys in front. That's a fine performance. Merc medium pace looked strong today and they did one quick lap less on their race tyres as verstappen went twice. Not much but will all help with the 1 stopper expected.

Ham can’t seem to break the 100 pole barrier
Ocon did a great lap. Have to say I thought he wouldn't be up there this year.
However alonso isn't doing so well (I didn't think he would) very reminiscent of Schumachers return. He just shouldn't have come back.
Great job by norris especially compared to riccardo. That's gonna hurt riccardo.
Vettel. Another driver who needed to perform and who did.
Really interesting to see norris and Ocon outperforming thier esteemed team mates.
