My 5870 has been working fine until it tried crysis. There are some crazy artifacts appearing espcially in the shadows where i see lots of speckles.
All settings are set to max in the game except aa which is off. can someone let me know if these artifacts are just the game or the graphics card having it over.
I've checked the temps for everything and they seem fine. I have the latest drivers downloaded through the amd site.
Thanks

Does it happen anywhere else or just on those particular walls? does underclocking your card help?

The speckles in the shadows happens everywhere. The problem on the walls happens on some walls but not others. I'll try underclocking and a clean driver install now.

Ok well i tried underclocking the card and it made no difference. When i unistalled the driver i got the 'driver has failed to respond but has recovered' error and it did it again when reinstalling the driver. This is on a fresh OS install.
Just for extra info my PSU is a corsair 620HX.

I'm more inclined to think it's a driver based rendering problem, we could do with seeing if anyone else can replicate it.

Ok. Well the best place to see the problem on the wall (when i first noticed it) is in the building where you rescue a POW just before getting attack by two tanks.
As for the shadows problem you can see this just about everywhere, but it's much easier to notice on the shadow your charater casts especially against walls.

Your Card is fine, its something to do with Dx10, as i get it as well on my 4870 1gb, works fine in Dx9 mode (in Win 7), and XP (obviously, as that can only do Dx9), as i thought it was my card to when i first noticed it, but it only happens in that game when its ran in Dx10 mode, so its either the game or drivers.

Ah great. Thanks. Thats a weight off my mind:)

I used to get those types of speckles when i overclocked my 9600pro to high, i think it was something to do with the heat the card was generating.

For me they are there all the time from the second the game starts before it has a chance to warm up (only in crysis). Max temp my 5870 has got to playing crysis in a 2 hour session was 73c. I think that's a good temp under gaming conditions:)

hmm. i wish i never read this now. i have a 4870x2 and have never noticed this playing crysis! i bet next time i play it ill notice it and it will bug me. hahaha
